Good Women Still Exist

I am drowning in my thoughts
About the kind of woman I should be,
When I live in a society that encourages me
To hide my flaws and my imperfections;
Disguise them as something else more appealing
In order to be seen.
Good women still exist
Behind all of the scars, tears, and bruises,
But, we're labelled as aggressive instead of a woman who chooses,
To be assertive,
And refuses being called emotional by a man who uses any excuse just to lose his
cool.
They say a good woman should be godly; righteous, fair, and just
But am I not a good woman If I stray away from God
To adjust,
The lens through which I now view the world?
Society make things so hard
For a woman like you, like me, like her
That we forget that we have to do our part
And be consistent in the way in which we view ourselves.
Good women still exist
We stand tall and walk in confidence
For some people that might be an intimidating stance
But do we miss out on the chance,
To advocate for all the good women out there
Who give first to themselves
Self-love, self-care, and respect
Because expecting to be cared for and loved, especially by the opposite sex,
For some of us
May have long been a dream that may never come true.
Many of us have had children out of wedlock,
Some of us, may have even danced in a nightclub to earn a quick buck
Tell me,
How does any of that change who we are inside?
Unless you're listening to a man whose mad he couldn't go for a ride,
On your feelings, to deepen your insecurities,
Because as soon as we realize past experiences don't change the fact that we are good women because;
Good women still exist
We've levelled the playing field
And now everything society has told us
is dismissed.
